Hey friend,
I'm pretty sure my laundry pile has basically doubled in the last few weeks, and we're still only a family of 5.
My middle guy just started at the developmental preschool a couple days a week — but it's already added a new layer to the laundry. He goes in his nicer school clothes, and since we spend a good chunk of our afternoons outside, I switch him into play clothes the moment we're home. I'm trying to keep the school clothes safe from the many dirt patches that are clearly made for sitting in and the delicious, juicy, stain-producing raspberries that are always calling his name from the raised bed. That's two outfits before lunch, right there.
And now once a week, my oldest heads off to an outdoor enrichment day that's part of our homeschool week this year. I'm expecting he'll go through two outfits of his own, plus pajamas, on top of everything else already happening in this house.
So yeah. We've definitely entered a time where everyone needs more clothes, more often. And to think the jackets haven't even made their seasonal appearance yet.
Despite these being big changes to our routines (and clearly our amount of laundry) thankfully, it hasn't felt like things are going off the rails. Honestly, I think it's because I have two really simple habits that keep laundry from turning into a total disaster. Trust me, I don't even like laundry, so it's not like this is a love language and I'm just naturally gifted with it. But that's exactly why I have a system for it.
I broke the whole thing down in this week's episode — if your laundry pile is starting to double too, thanks to sports, school, a new family addition, whatever, I think you'll find it helpful.
Cheering you on,
P.S. If you have a friend who loathes laundry, send this her way. It might give her some practical encouragement for dealing with the inevitable.
