Good morning and happy November!
As a Christian parent, we want to leave a legacy. We aspire to live up to Deuteronomy 6:5-7.
5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
But I've never been more inspired to live this out than after this weekend, celebrating the 90th birthday of the most sincere, kind, generous, and Christ-like 90-year-old man I know, Papa Chuck. He is my husband's grandfather and I am so blessed to be part of his family.
I asked him this weekend what he thought was the craziest thing for him to look back on in his 90 years, and he said he was amazed at just how convenient everything is today compared to where things were when his life first began.
How you don't even have to go to the grocery store anymore — they'll just bring it to your door if you want. (I am actually one of those people!)
And he is so right.
We truly have it so easy in many ways these days. Hearing his perspective reminded me that I need to live everyday with a heart of gratitude.
Actually, not even everyday.
Not just in November, but in every moment.
I'd encourage you this week to live with thanksgiving. Journal through what you're grateful for at the start of each day.
Grateful people are the happiest people.
Encouragement for this week:
2 Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.
— Colossians 4:2
Lord, thank You for the people in our lives who encourage us to leave a legacy, not for our sake, but for Yours. Father, please help us to remember to actually live out thanksgiving — at ALL times — not just for the month of November. Amen.
Thankful for you,
