Hi friend,
I wrote episode 42 back in June. It's the last one in our Nehemiah series, all about what I've been calling calm discipline — staying steady when life gets hard instead of frantically pushing harder.
I had no idea how much I would need it by the time it aired.
Last week I told you about our son's diagnosis. A rare genetic mutation we're still learning so much about. Ever since, I've noticed something kind of ironic — I keep going back to the same points I made in that episode, except now I'm not writing them for you. I'm trying to ensure I live them out.
Prayer can't just be this thing I check off. It's the first thing I reach for, before I've even decided how I feel about what's happening.
Pausing before reacting has become a survival skill. My mind wants to run 10, 20, 30+ years down the road and imagine every hard thing that could happen to him. So I've had to keep pulling myself back to what's true right now, today, in front of me.
And to be clear, staying steady doesn't mean pretending everything's "fine." But I can pray for his future and still make sure he gets every bit of support and care he needs right now. Both. Not one instead of the other.
Honestly, the part I keep coming back to is just — keep going. Not perfectly. Not with some big display of faith. Just showing up again tomorrow, and the day after that, because he needs me to.
I didn't write this series for this. But God did.
If you've been with me through the Nehemiah series, episode 42 wraps it up — prayer, pausing, not ignoring reality, and staying faithful when it's hard. I'd love for you to listen, especially if things feel hard in your life right now, too.
You don't have to have it figured out to keep going. You just have to keep going.
Cheering you on,
P.S. If you have a friend walking through something hard right now, I made a Spotify playlist with the whole Nehemiah series on it. It might be exactly what she needs today — it was for me.
