Moses had the same mom problem I do

Hey friend,

We officially closed out the Nehemiah series last week. Thank you for walking through it with me — especially that last one. It meant more than you probably know.

Now we're shifting gears. Back-to-school season is here, so for the next few weeks I want to keep things super practical. The kind of episodes you can half-listen to while you're packing lunches or hunting down a missing shoe.

First up: chores.

Here's how I've been thinking about it lately...I don't work out every single day — a 4-5 days a week is plenty for me. In the moment, it's hard. My legs are shaking, I'm questioning my life choices somewhere around minute twenty, and I contemplate quitting. BUT I keep showing up, because I know the payoff isn't today. It'll be down the road as long as I stay the path.

That's basically what training my kids in chores feels like some days.

My oldest has been wiping up his own spills with a rag since he was about 18 months old. He clears his own plate after breakfast and dinner now, every time, reminders rarely needed.

Now, is it faster if I just do it myself? I mean yeah, almost always. And don't even get me started on his folded washcloths that are more like a parallelogram than a nice, neat square.

But I'm starting to see it pay off. Slowly, but that's fine.

That's what this week's episode digs into — why we moms end up doing everything ourselves even when we know better, and what it actually looks like to train our kids instead of just doing the job faster ourselves.

There's a verse about training up a kid in the way he should go. You know the one. Turns out training takes actual training, for both of us. (There's a Moses story in there too and it's a good one.)

You don't have to overhaul your whole home by Friday. Small, faithful repetition — that's calm discipline in real life.

Cheering you on,

P.S. If you have a mom friend who feels stuck doing it all herself, do her a solid and forward this her way.
